The 2026 TFDA will hold its Final Selection and Award Ceremony on October 14 at Heritage Square, Kong Zong Cultural Base in Taipei. Organized by the Industrial Development Administration (IDA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and executed by the Taiwan Textile Federation, the competition marks its 40th edition this year.
Selected from 530 emerging designers representing 25 countries and regions, 12 finalists from Taiwan, Australia, South Korea, Hungary, and Japan will present complete collections during Taipei Fashion Week. They will compete for US$35,000 in total prize money, including a US$10,000 First Prize, two Second Prizes, and three Third Prizes recognizing Best Use of Fabrics, Best Pattern Making, and Best Market Potential.
This year’s finalist collections move beyond garment form to explore personal memory, cultural identity, and contemporary life. Their themes range from childhood and family relationships to the body and technology, fast fashion and consumer culture, gender expression, community, and the reinterpretation of traditional culture. Across the 12 collections, designers experiment with deconstruction, jacquard, digital programming, natural dyeing, upcycling, and handcraft, drawing inspiration from architecture, traditional craft, wedding dress, ice hockey, jazz, and cinema.
Over four decades, TFDA has developed from an annual design competition into a platform connecting emerging designers with the professional fashion industry. Through runway presentations and international exchange, the competition helps young designers move from education into professional opportunities across brands, manufacturers, and the wider market, while reflecting the industry’s growing focus on sustainability, digital technology, and commercial application.
This year’s competition is supported by Coddy Global Ltd., Eclat Education Foundation, Fortune Industrial and Commercial Development Foundation, Lealea Enterprise Co., Ltd., Li Peng Enterprise Co., Ltd., Makalot Foundation, New Wide Enterprise Co., Ltd., and New Wide Garment Co., Ltd., providing US$35,000 in total prize money and supporting the creative and professional development of emerging designers.
