Defining the Future: 12 Designers to Watch from the 2025 Taiwan Fashion Design Award

The 39th TFDA Sets a New Record! A total of 627 emerging fashion designers from 25 countries and regions registered for this year’s competition, demonstrating growing global engagement and the rising international visibility of the award. In addition to strong participation from local talents in Taiwan, entries came from Australia, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Portugal, Romania, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States, among others. Young talents from around the world brought with them a wealth of creativity and cross-cultural perspectives, delivering fresh ideas and experimental approaches to the competition.

The submissions for this year’s competition drew inspiration from a wide range of themes, including nature and ecology, social issues, personal growth, and future technologies. Key motifs encompassed natural landscapes, cultural memories, gender equality, and self-reflection throughout one’s development. The designs combined handcrafted techniques, functional structures, and innovative materials to showcase clothing’s multifaceted role as a vessel for art, emotion, and social responsibility. Fully embodying the competition’s core principles of CREATIVITY, SUSTAINABILITY, FUNCTION and PERFORMANCE, the entries emphasized the reuse of recycled fabrics, promotion of zero-waste production processes, and application of local craftsmanship. At the same time, modular design, multifunctional storage, and adjustable accessories were integrated, reflecting a new definition of contemporary fashion that balances environmental friendliness, adaptability to daily life, and aesthetic appeal.

Following a rigorous selection process conducted by a panel of esteemed judges, 12 finalists were ultimately chosen, representing the boundless potential of next-generation fashion design. The preliminary jury featured a distinguished lineup of international experts, including renowned designers Fujiwara Dai (Japan) and Stephane Dou; Jane Singer (USA), Managing Director of Inside Fashion; Florence Lu, independent fashion curator; Tomonori Matsui (Japan), CEO of ONE O Ltd.; Eliza Yang, Vice President of Onefifteen; and Charlotte Chiang, Director of the Innovative & Sustainable Design Department at TTF. The jury unanimously praised this year’s submissions for their experimental breakthroughs in material application and structural innovation. The depth of thought given to sustainability was particularly impressive. Artistic entries showcased a unique aesthetic language, reflecting the forward-looking vision and creative depth of a new generation of designers.

Organized by the Industrial Development Administration (IDA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and executed by the Taiwan Textile Federation, the competition has evolved into a leading platform for emerging fashion talent worldwide. Celebrated for spotlighting creative innovation and forward-thinking design, it continues to draw global attention and encourage cross-border dialogue within the fashion industry. This year’s award is made possible by the generous support of valued industry sponsors, including Coddy Global Ltd., Eclat Education Foundation, Fortune Industrial and Commercial Development Foundation, Lealea Enterprise Co., Ltd., Li Peng Enterprise Co., Ltd., Makalot Foundation, New Wide Enterprise Co., Ltd., and New Wide Garment Co., Ltd., who collectively contributed a prize fund of US$35,000.
